Advanced Placement Biology is a course that is governed by the College Board and allows high school students to study the topics typically covered in an introductory college course for biology majors. Students will cultivate their understanding of biology through inquiry-based investigations as they explore the following topics: chemistry of life, cell structure and function, cellular energetics, cell communication and cell cycle, heredity, gene expression and regulation, natural selection, and ecology. Students will take the comprehensive AP Exam in May, and if a qualifying score is achieved they will earn college credit for biology. Score requirements will vary per college. This course requires that 25% of the instructional time will be spent in hands-on laboratory work, with an emphasis on inquiry-based investigations that provide students with opportunities to apply the science practices. AP Biology is an extremely demanding and challenging class.
